MAYA IXIL is a coffee cooperative of 205 farmers, primarily indigenous coffee growers, located in the Ixil Triangle of Guatemala’s northwestern highlands. Founded in 1998 by 28 farmers seeking fairer market access, the cooperative promotes agroecological practices to sustain their land and livelihoods.

Community Coordinator Highlights
Amós Antonio Marroquín Sambrano
Amós Antonio Marroquín Sambrano, es originario de la Aldea Santa Avelina , Cotzal, Quiché, Guatemala, tiene 25 años, y habla dos idiomas: Ixil y Español.
Amós es Perito y técnico Agrónomo, Comenzó a laborar en el año 2021 como coordinador de Seguridad Alimentaria y técnico agrícola de la Cooperativa Maya Ixil.
Para Amós que nunca había trabajado en temas como el de seguridad alimentaria o agroforestal, fue un reto grande asumir la coordinación del programa, pero considera que han logrado salir adelante, aunque hay muchas cosas que mejorar.
Amós está fascinado de trabajar con las familias de Maya Ixil, él observa que los productores aman la ecología y sus parcelas están diversificadas con plantas frutales, plantas forestales, hortalizas.
Además del programa de Seguridad Alimentaria, sus principales actividades en la organización son:
Coordinar actividades con equipo de promotoria, lo que incluye capacitaciones
Seguimiento al vivero forestal
Logística de entrega de insumos
Es responsable de la renovación de los certificados bajos normas Nop/usda y Unión Europa
Programar actividades y reuniones de consultoría
Uno de sus principales intereses tiene que ver con lograr el impacto social, económico y ambiental para las familias de Maya Ixil; tecnificar y monitorear sus propias parcelas de frijol, aguacate, café. En su tiempo libre le encanta jugar fútbol.
Amós Antonio Marroquín Sambrano
Amos Antonio Marroquin Sambrano, is originally from the village of Santa Avelina, Cotzal, Quiché, Guatemala, is 25 years old, and speaks two languages: Ixil and Spanish.
He began working in 2021 as coordinator of Food Security and agricultural technician of the Maya Ixil Cooperative.
For Amos, who had never worked on issues such as food security or agroforestry, it was a big challenge to take on the coordination of the program, but he believes that they have managed to move forward, although there are many things to improve.
Amos is fascinated to work with the families of Maya Ixil, he observes that the producers love ecology and their plots are diversified with fruit plants, forest plants and vegetables.
In addition to the Food Security program, his main activities in the organization are:
Coordinating activities with the promoter team, including training
Monitoring the forest nursery
Logistics for the delivery of inputs
He is responsible for the renewal of certificates under Nop/usda and European Union standards
Scheduling activities and consulting meetings
One of his main interests has to do with achieving social, economic and environmental impact for Maya Ixil families; technifying and monitoring his own bean, avocado and coffee plots. In his free time he loves to play soccer.
