DERMAC, Rural Development and Environment A.C., is a non-profit association dedicated to the management and application of resources for projects that benefit the conservation of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, with the committed participation of various social actors (rural sector, academic sector, governmental and non-governmental sectors). They are located in Chiapas, Mexico.
From 2021 until 2023, DERMAC and Food 4 Farmers collaborated on a home garden program with women cacao producers in the Soconusco region of Chiapas. The goal was to do a pilot program to increase food sovereignty awareness in an area where traditional foods are being replaced with cheap and processed foods brought from outside their communities. After the pilot phase of the program, DERMAC absorbed all activities and continues to implement them alongside their ongoing conservation work with the community.
